business card wallet

February 6, 2012 in Cate, Craft, Sewing, Tutorials, Uncategorized

I went to a bloggers meet and greet yesterday. I had spent some time the night before whipping up some contact cards, but had nothing to store them in, so when I arrived home I pulled out the sewing machine.

There’s a few tutorials around for tea bag wallets, so I just changed a couple of things to suit my needs.

I used felt on the outside, calico as my liner, and some funky purple fabric in the middle.

I sewed my button on first. I find that my sewing is so messy, by sewing the button first I can hide the back.

Next, fold and iron the fabric for the inside, and topstitch the folded edge.

Sew the pocket into the lining. I forgot to photograph the next step – lay the pieces together, right side facing each other, then stitch around the outside, leaving a gap for turning. Don’t forget to sew your elastic in (I like to double stitch).

Clip the corners, then turn right way out.

I like to top stitch everything, so if you’re doing it, now’s the time. Then fold your wallet, mark the middle and stitch a line through the pocket to the lining.

Of course, I forgot to allow for seams when changing the sizes, so it’s too small. But I know how simple it is, and can make another this afternoon while my boysleeps.

Finished product.

Do you have contact (or business) cards? Where do you keep them?
