Book Review: Quilting Modern

When I ordered the Modern Quilts book for our ModernQAL I couldn’t resist ordering a couple of other books as well. It has been a while since I have bought any quilting books, so I didn’t even feel guilty!

I wasn’t disappointed with them either. Quilting Modern by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pedersen is beautiful and made me want to pull out fabric and start playing straight away. There was at least half a dozen things that I wanted to try.

The book starts with great explanations about improvisational quilting from the basics of tools to fabric choices and quilting designs.

I couldn’t decide whether I was inspired more by the fabric combinations or the designs of the quilts with lots of “white space” to let the fabrics pop.

The simple quilting is amazing – so achievable and yet so effective on even the large-scale quilts. I suppose it was nice to read a book and find myself thinking “I could actually create that!”.

These pictures are only a small sample of the quilts. There are 21 quilts in the book with full instructions and lots of photos.

How in the world will I decide where to start!?

Note: This is not a sponsored post. I bought this book because I wanted to and wrote about it because I loved it and wanted to share. That said, if you click on the book cover in this post, you will go through to Fishpond via my affiliate link. The quilts are photos from the book snapped with my iPhone.
