It is never too early to start thinking about Christmas presents if you’re planning to make some of them! Handmade items take time to plan and make, and with Christmas only 3 months away and a whole lot of daily life to plan around, now is the time to get making!
This is my third Christmas as a quilter and sewist, and a tradition I’m planning on continuing is making something handmade for the family. The first year was appliqued onesies and T-shirts for the kids. The second year was a quilted Advent calendar. This year I’m thinking of some quilted Christmas ornaments using Ornamental blocks, and maybe a Christmas Tree wall hanging using Christa Quilts’ quilt-along. The second part to this tradition is to use Kate Spain’s Christmas line. This was unintentional, but both of the past Christmas items used her last two Christmas lines, and hey, why spoil a good thing?!
The other list on this handmade Christmas list is a quilt for my daughter. I’m using a bunch of quilt bee blocks – I just need to add a border and quilt it up. It’s a touch girly with the pink and yellow, but the green and navy adds an edge. Just like my cheeky, sassy little girl!
I want to make something for my son too… but as for what that is, I’m not sure! He’s already got a quilt, although he’ll need a new one next year. I’m thinking maybe a pillowcase. The Sew, Mama, Sew pillowcase tutorial looks crazy easy, but I think I want a contrasting band like the tutorial on MADE or some added trim like at Film In The Fridge.
