20 minute craft | fabric covered notebook

IMG_3385I don’t know of any paper crafter who doesn’t love stationery and notebooks. Personally, I have a weakness for composition books (which are hard to find in Australia), but they have very unattractive covers. I love to make them look pretty with sheets of scrapbooks paper, and fabric, too!

IMG_3384I recieved some lovely purple fabric in a Christmas swap, but wasn’t sure what I would use it as there was only one fat quarter. Then I decided I had to cover a notebook with fabric, and, well, purple is a favourite.

IMG_3383I started by roughly cutting the fabric and vliesofix to size. After several fabric-stuck-to-ironing-board incidents, I cut the vliesofix a little smaller than the fabric, and trim once it’s ironed.

IMG_3382Then I lay the book out, and cut the corners and notch the middle. You could just trim the fabric to the edges of the cover, but I prefer the wrapped look.

IMG_3381The first spot I iron is the inside edge. This gives the cover some grip.

IMG_3380Then I close the cover, and gently iron the cover, making sure not to go all the way to the edges.

IMG_3379Next, iron the top and bottom edges.

IMG_3378Then the front cover

IMG_3377And lastly wrap the front cover.

IMG_3376Give everything another press. (When I cover hard notebooks with square spines, I run the iron along the spine, too, but don’t bother with these books)

IMG_3375And because I like the neat look, I cover the inside cover with some cardstock.

IMG_3374And now I have a beautiful journal when my current journal fills up.
