I cleaned my craft room on the weekend. I know. Big job. Huge! But I moved lots of stuff and vacuumed EVERYWHERE. Something I don’t do very often.
It wasn’t really fun. But I did find some projects I needed to finish. Or in this case start.
I bought this fabric a while ago with this big tote in mind. My friend, Di, sometimes comes to quilt at my place. She always brings her supplies in a big tote that she bought from Ikea. I decided I wanted to make one. I even took measurements from hers to get me started. Then I found this fabric at a ridiculous price in the “off-cut bin” at Spotlight. It has some marks on it but for this project it is perfect.
So in an hour or so I turned the fabric into this super tote. Packed in there for the photo shoot are two blankets and three quilts so it is huge! When I take partly finished quilts to craft morning or Craft Retreat, this will be large enough to hold the quilt and any extra fabric and batting I need.
This gives you an idea of the dimensions I used. The 36″ side is the top of the bag so you fold it in half, join the side seams and box the base. Before I did that though, I attached the straps like this:
By running the straps under the base of the bag, you give it extra strength for heavier loads. My fabric is an upholstery weight fabric for the same reason.
