Itadakimasu - A Japanese Wall Hanging

I am a part of a paper piecing quilt bee we call ‘Wombat Stew’. The premise is that each month, one of us is the leader - we choose a theme and perhaps a few guidelines like colour palette or block size, and the rest of the group designs and makes paper pieced blocks to fit that theme. I was the first to choose last year, and I asked for Japanese cuisine blocks. And wow, did these girls deliver!

We took this month off so that we could all finally get around to sewing our blocks up, and I went to town pebble quilting the background. A few hours , a stiff neck and 4 bobbins later, it was ready for binding. Black was the only option, but I threw in some red for a suprise and to balance out the red in the blocks on the other side of the wall hanging.

I have entered this wall hanging in the Bloggers’ Quilt Festival - a semi-annual quilt festival to coincide with the spring and fall International Quilt Markets to show off a recent finish and be in the chance for some great prizes! I have this entered into the wall hanging category and it is #2. There are some amazing quilts in this category, and voting is now open so go check them out and vote for your favourite! Of course I’d love your support, but do pick your favourite.

I also have a giveaway on at the moment if you would like to be in the running to win all of the block patterns for this wall hanging! They’re all paper piecing patterns, some easier than others, but if you’ve ever wanted to try paper piecing, why not give them a go?!

I think I like the sushi pattern the best. The piecing seems to fit with Japanese art.

  2. It’s beautiful Alyce! What an accomplishment!
