Baby Week | Appliqued Baby Onesies

Plain, cotton onesies are cheap and plentiful, and so easy to upstyle! Whether you add a cute iron-on patch, use fabric paint, embroider or applique a design, there are so many ways to take a onesie from plain to pretty or punk quickly and easily!

For my daughter’s first Christmas a couple of years ago, I strip-pieced some Christmas-coloured prints then cut out a triangle. Fold the edges underneath 1/4″ and use some lightweight fusing to iron it onto the onesie. Top stitch or hand stitch the edges down and add a bright star button on top! Ensure the button is tight and secure - my daughter only wore it during Christmas Day under supervision as the button can become a choking hazard if it comes off.

These make great baby shower gifts and can be personalised to suit the expecting parents, the nursery, or the sex of the baby - a bow tie for a boy would just be adorable!
