When we first moved into our house, my husband and I debated which room would be the study and which would be my craft space. I was planning to use the open-plan formal dining room as my craft space, but my husband decided I needed a door for my mess. The study became my craft room and the formal dining room became the study. My husband wasn’t happy with the open-ness of his study, but he spent most of his computer time with the laptop in front of the TV, so it wasn’t that big a deal.
After a couple of years in the house, I always felt cold in winter and would look longingly at our guest bedroom, which got all the winter sunshine, and was a bright, happy room that gets used for one week a year when my parents visit. I told my husband I was thinking of switching rooms around, and he wasn’t against the idea, so later that day, the spare bedroom became my craft room and the old craft room became the study and guest bedroom. The formal dining room became a place to store all the junk I’m supposed to be selling on Gumtree, but that’s a whole other story!
As I was moving, I planned to sort through my craft supplies and sort everything nicely, but in the end, I just wanted to get everything moved. Everything just got shoved wherever! So it’s time to share – here’s where I craft:
As you enter my craft space, there’s a wall of fabric (with a built-in shelving unit at the side of a wardrobe). My thread and is on the top shelf, and a mat for the dog is on the floor. I’d love to wrap the fabric on card or corflute and organise it a bit more. Maybe one day…
Behind the shelves is this wardrobe, with a few presents from my kids stuck on the front. Inside is my knit fabric and other random craft supplies:
Then there’s my desk – well two IKEA desks next to each other with my computer, sewing machine and overlocker:
On the other side, is my wonderful craft table (regularly featured on Instagram because it’s always a gigantic mess!):
It’s the top of our old dining table, resting on top of two ClosetMaid Shelving Units. All sorts of craft supplies are on the shelving units and underneath is even more in plastic tubs and a set of IKEA drawers. Seriously, where did all these craft supplies come from? I really need to spend more time using up my supplies!
So there’s a warts and all tour of where I craft (if I’m not crafting on the couch watching TV). I’ll finish off with my favourite decorations, made by my son for Mother’s Day last year:

I love seeing everyone’s craft spaces. I’m so jealous of people with craft rooms! Your setup looks great.

I know I’m lucky to have a space all to myself. Now I just have to organise it better and make it perfect (for at least 3 seconds!). It’s looking much tidier since I took those photos!
