Around here, it’s a time of year known affectionately as Birthday Season - a span of five weeks where all four of our children celebrate birthdays. It’s crazy but fun, even though we are sick of cake by the end of it! Our two biggest boys are the closest, with a neat week between their birthdays, which were celebrated a couple of weeks back. I usually bake them a cake for the day of their birthday, and then one for their party, but I got off lightly this year as the boys aren’t having a party. “Lightly”, in the sense I only had one cake per child to bake, but that just upped the stakes in the design department, because if I’m only doing one, well, I want that “one” to count!
First up was Bear, turning nine. I ended up deciding on an anti-gravity cake, because he’s a scientific like chap & I though it would appeal to his quirkiness.
Bear enjoyed it, his little sister, however, nearly ruined the whole set up as she reached out for the bag and exclaimed “oh mummy! You forgot to take the rubbish away!”. In end I spent the better part of the morning swatting small hands away from the packet!
A week later was Boy2’s 7th birthday and he picked quite the elaborate cake from a beautiful cake book that was gifted to us:

It didn’t turn out exactly “book worthy”, but the little boy loved it, so we’ll call it a success!!
What’s the most elaborate cake you’ve made? We’d love to see!
