Oh My! I managed to finish a dress for myself! Honestly when I started this process a couple of weeks ago I wasn’t expecting to actually finish this quickly. I am the master procrastinator.
I know I talked last week about testing out the bodice and I figured I might get alittle done over the weekend. Maybe some cutting or something! Well then my sister wanted to take the kids on Saturday night and they didn’t come home until late Sunday. I had Sunday all to myself well pretty much. I still had James at home but he was working on the car.
I started cutting out the fabric which took a good hour or more and as soon as I was finished I just had to get started sewing.
Well by Sunday night I had the main dress done. I then added elastic and ties on Monday and I though I was done. I had a mini issue with the neckline pulling apart and away. After following some advice I unpicked part of the neckline and ironed in some interfacing. I then resewed it up using a zigzag stitch so that the fabric wouldn’t be pulling from one point of stitching. I did that on both the front and back and I’m so happy with how it’s turned out now. I am debating if this dress is dressy enough to wear out to the theatre this week… maybe…
Here it was Sunday night. I hadn’t added the elastic so it’s quite baggy and I’m wearing it over the top of my clothes at the time.
You can see the fabric is pulling around the opening as it was held by only one thread and at one point.
You can see how I’ve fixed it with some interface and also sewed up that seam on the front and back with a zig zag stitch. It’s not noticeable when wearing and holds it together nicely and doesn’t pull from one point anymore.
I love how this dress looks and it feels gorgeous against my skin. It was awful to work with the rayon but soooo worth it in the end. Now all I need to do is make the second one…. I don’t know if I want to try dealing with the rayon again… But I really want to make that dress.

You did a great job rescuing the neckline - well done!
Maybe try a cotton knit for the next one - not as challenging as rayon but will still drape beautifully.
