My latest creation - Kenedy Dress

So I haven’t touched my cross stitch for a good couple of months. But I have been sewing. Towards the beginning of last month I made myself another dress. It will be my third dress that I’ve made for myself. This one is the Kenedy Dress from the Seamwork magazine. I love the patterns from this magazine. (reminder it is cheaper to subscribe for one month and get two patterns than to buy any one pattern outright just something to think about) So many simple designs that you can do so much with. As it is getting colder here I need outfits that can be worn in winter as well as summer.

This outfit was my plan as something that can be worn with leggings and a long sleeved shirt. I love the tunic style. It’s so easy and simple to wear. I don’t have to wear it with the long shirt but it was a bit cold this day.

I did make some changes. I started by making a straight size 14 but quickly realised that it wasn’t going to work. The sides were too loose and the back was gaping. So out came my trusty pins and I pinned in the sides. and measured it up on my. I ended up taking up the back as well since I have a bit of a sway back. I took up at least 3 inches at the top of the back. It’s amazing how loose it was on the top. I think I will have to make a size down next time but add some extra length.

I didn’t plan to have the pattern stopping in the middle but that is just what happened. I kinda like the way it worked out.

I always have something to learn and the suggestion from my partner is some sort of elastic or tie under the bust to just bring it in better and accentuate my waist. I have a tiny waist and big hips. Thankfully this draping fabric is very forgiving and shows off a little of my waist without help. I want to try that for the next one. It could be really fun to try out the different types. There is so much versatility in this Kenedy Dress.

So what sort of variations could you see working with this dress? There are so many possibilities as it’s such a simple silhouette.

Happy Stitching,

Caitlin
