Bobble Easter Bunny Tutorial

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you’re enjoying time with family. Do your kids get loads of chocolate eggs and bunnies? Or do you put a few slightly healthier treats in plastic Easter eggs? If you’ve got a few plastic Easter eggs lying around, here’s a fun craft to make with the kids:

It’s one of those simple things that can dissolve my kids into fits of giggles. A big blob of Blu-tak (or other weight) in the bottom lowers the centre of gravity, turning an egg into a bobble toy, bobbing back up when you push it over. Here’s a quick video of it in action:

Decorate it like the Easter bunny and you’ve got a cute Easter craft, complete with a fluffy tail!

Here’s the tutorial:

Supplies

1 plastic Easter egg

1 piece of paper

1 chenille stick (pipe cleaner)

1 small pink pompom

1 large white pompom

Sticky tape

Glue

Markers

Ball of Blu-tak

A small weight (eg metal washer) (optional)

Method

1. Cut out some Easter bunny ears and a rectangle of paper, a bit taller than your egg and wide enough to go all the way around with a centimetre or two of overlap.

2. Colour in the inside of the ears in pink marker and draw a face on the middle of the rectangle.

3. Cut the chenille stick into 3 pieces and twist the three pieces together to form whiskers

4. Glue the whiskers to the face of the bunny, and glue a small pink pompom on top, for the nose. Glue the ears to the rectangle too (not shown).

5. Roll the rectangle into a cylinder that fits around your egg and sticky tape into position.

6. Put a ball of Blu-tak (and maybe a small weight, such as a washer) into the round bottom of the Easter egg.

7. Close up the egg and put the cylinder over the top of the egg. Check how well it bobbles – you may need to move around the Blu-Tak or put a bit more weight into the bottom of the egg if it’s leaning to one side too much. The whiskers and tail can cause a few problems, but play around with the Blu-Tak until it works!

8. And don’t forget to glue on a white pompom for a cute bunny tail.

9. If you want, sticky tape the bunny to the egg so it all stays together.

This is a really fun craft to do with kids. You don’t have to make the Easter Bunny – maybe make bobble versions of your family or favourite cartoon characters.
