For those who haven’t heard yet, I moved back to Australia last month. For the next couple of months, I’m staying with my in-laws while my husband finishes up life and work back in Japan. I’ve been trying to stay creative, trying to keep making and creating. And I won’t lie, it’s been hard. Creating takes emotional energy and motivation, to get started at least, and that’s been running a little lower than usual! Sure I’ve got an incredible support system, but 10 weeks apart from your husband and baby daddy takes its toll. And especially as I have a lot of work sewing to do too, it has been hard to find the energy for any “fun” creating. The 100 Days Project came at just the right time to give me a little nudge to do at least something every day, and homework time was the perfect time to do that.
They’re still at the age when they need some supervision when they’re doing their homework, and of course when they read to me they get my full attention. But just being there at the table doing my own “work” too helps keep them focused. Sometimes it’s been colouring my Secret Japan book.
Sometimes it’s been doing a little bit of cross stitch… finally…
Other times it’s been working on some Project Life via the app. Yes, I know I said I was doing Blurb, and I plan on incorporating these pages into that book! Now that I have an iPhone again, it’s so much easier to take good photos again and document them too.
I’ve also done some quilt block sketching, trying out different half-square triangle.
And the awesome thing I’ve found sometimes? Once the kids have finished with their homework, they will often start creating too!
