I sent my big boy off on his first school camp a couple of weeks ago. To keep him organised, I decided to make a few bags for him (it wasn’t until the day before camp that I realised his friends would either think he had a cool mum, or was a total dork. I have yet to ask him what they thought.)

They needed to supply their own utensils, tea towels, crockery, so I decided to make a pouch for the tea towel and cutlery. I just cut a tea towel in half, and made a drawstring bag (and forgot to leave holes for the drawstring, but that’s another story)

To make it easier to figure out what bag had what in it, I labeled them, and followed the motif through on everything else I labeled.

A toiletries bag from a hand towel, to match the new towels I bought him. I borrowed this for a recent training weekend, and discovered that nothing was opened.

I didn’t think to add this one until after I sewed the inside, so it’s just stuck on with vliesofix. I used this d on all his sheets and towels.

Lastly, I made a bag from a plastic tablecloth, so any wet or dirty clothes could come home safely. Of course, in typical ten-year-old-fashion, he couldn’t repack anything, and it all came home in his backpack. This was horrible to sew, because the iron melted the plastic so the letters were pinned not stuck down, and the plastic slipped. I don’t recommend trying it, unless you know a trick I haven’t figured out yet.

Love these, so cute. Thinking about making the little toiletries wrap for my swimming bag.

  2. I think it’s hilarious that you were such a great mum and put so much thought into these - and he didn’t even open the toiletries. Giggling like a mad woman!
