Today we are chatting with the lovely Quilt Jane, from Want It, Need It, Quilt. We have had the pleasure of sharing some photo’s of Jane’s gorgeous craft space on the blog before, so I am excited to be sharing this interview with you all.
Anorina interviewed Jane last week and this is what she had to say.
When did you start quilting?
I went to my first quilt class when I was 19 with a friend. I made a Queen sized quilt. All hand done using my own pattern. I did not quilt again until I had my first child 14 years ago.
What is your quilting “style”?
I really don’t have one style. I adapt to whatever is trending, what I need to express my self or whatever the fabric is telling me.
What is the main inspiration for your designs?
Nature and architecture play an important role in creating a design.
What is the best advice someone gave you about quilting?
Try and do the best job but if a quilt is perfect then it is not handmade.
What tips would you give a beginner?
Slow down and enjoy what you are making.
Of all the quilts you’ve made – do you have a favourite? Which one?
I really enjoyed making the MegaSwoon.

What is your must have quilting tool?
So many, but where would we be without rotary cutters and un pickers.
We’ve had the aqua/red/orange and the yellow/grey combinations recently - What is your prediction for new colour combinations / styles?
I think the text prints will feature in many projects next year. Grey, citrus, lipstick pink, turquoise and limes will still be integral parts of quilts and bee blocks.
And now for some fun ones:
Do you listen to music when you sew? And if yes, what is your favourite quilting “mood” music?
I have a mixed selection of songs on my iTunes I play in the background – Ed Sheeran, Adele, Phil Collins, Hunters and Collectors, Johnny Clegg, The Poques. I love all types of music and they all add to my creativity.
Tea or Coffee – which do you prefer?
Love my coffee but on the occasion I love a strong pot of English Breakfast tea
Favourite TV show?
I don’t watch reality shows but love all the crime and sc-fi shows – Criminal Minds, NCIS, Grimm, SVU
What non-sewing related item can’t you live without? Why?
Chocolate – it is my weakness.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, which celebrity would you like to be stranded with? Why?
None. I don’t often get to be alone and the solitude would be refreshing.
