We had much debating about this topic when Amy first proposed it - one person’s essential was another person’s luxury!
For me, once the cutting mat and ruler are sorted out, a good pair of scissors are essential. And a quick-unpicker, because newbies make so. many. mistakes.
Then a rotary cutter is a must. At least, that was the way I was taught, but the other girls have different ideas.
Straight pins are next. And I’ll be honest here, I found these in the bottom of my sewing tote, I have never used them, but my dressmaker pins are a little worse for wear.
Lastly, washi tape. Now, that might sound odd (or maybe you know about using it, and I had to figure it out myself), but I found that cutting small pieces of fabric was really difficult, especially if they were smaller than my ruler. Washi tape to the rescue! Fabric doesn’t move, and the cut lines are straight!
What’s essential to you?
