{Tutorial} Christmas Tree Mini Quilt {with linky}

I’ve had this idea sitting in my head since about July when I signed myself up for #themostwonderfultimeofyear2015 swap over on Instagram but I only just turned my idea into reality this weekend. So since my crafting mojo is still hanging around I thought I’d share my pattern here.

Now, my pattern isn’t some flash computer generated diagrams, but it’s actually a photo of my notebook…

You’ll find cutting requirements in the first photo and then in the second I’ll show you the layout instructions.

But before we get to the layout instructions you need to make the HST’s using the 5 3/8 inch squares. So you’ll need to draw a diagonal line corner to corner on the back of the green squares and place them right sides together then sew a 1/4 away from the centre line on either side. Then cut down the centre line and ta da! You have a half square triangle (HST)

Do this with the rest of the squares and then trim them down to 4 1/2 inches square and then you are ready to piece together the tree.

Then hopefully you can follow my layout instructions easily enough. Just piece the rows together making sure to press your seams open.

And then your mini quilt is ready to be basted and quilted.

I haven’t done those steps just yet, but I’ll be sure to share it all when I’m done.
