Hello lovely people! It’s that time of year again when we often assess what we’ve been doing in the past year, and look at what we plan to do for the next year! Along with making some general plans for the year, and trying to be a better person, I also like to take stock of what creative things I’ve done, and what I would like to continue, or try in the new year, and make a list of craft goals for the new year.
At the bottom of this post is a link-up, so if you write a post with your craft goals for 2016 please share it below!
These are my guidelines for creating craft goals for the new year:
- Reflect positively on the previous year
- Take into consideration everything that is likely to happen in the new year (for me this means remembering I’ll have a new baby in 2016, and will most likely have a holiday at some stage)
- Consider choosing a theme, or ideal to adhere to in the new year instead of a specific list or number of things you want to achieve. Ali Edwards does the “One Little Word” project which is a good way to centre your plans for the year.
- But even with that last point in mind, don’t be afraid to be a bit specific if there really is something you want to achieve!
- Be realistic - don’t make too many plans, or unrealistic plans. Try to find that line between what you are capable of, but also what stretches you!
Here are some of the things I did in 2015:
- Completed another year of Project Life
- Made a film each month of our family life
- Completed several travel videos from our adventures overseas
- Completed several other videos as part of the video course I’ve been doing with Xanthe Berkeley.
- Started experimenting with some art journalling, and specifically did more watercolour painting. As part of that I have been having a play with some script painting as well.
- Started a few mini albums including a pregnancy album, and a “December Daily” style album for our own religious holidays.
My craft goals for 2016:
- Continue with Project Life (family album), but do this very simply, and minimise extra photos.
- Do my simplified first year baby project life album for our new little baby due in January.
- Continue with making videos - I’d love to keep doing one each month, and any one minute memory videos that I have time for.
- Do more art and craft with the kids - allowing them to experiment and try new things without being critical or telling them how it “should” be done.
- Experiment with art journalling.

I have begun to cross stitch again. I love large pieces that once framed look more like paintings.
Good luck with your goals.
