52 Weeks 2012

A concept that has been buzzing around the scrapbooking industry for the past couple of years is a yearly album that reflects on what happened in your life, whether it be on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

I chose to focus on a weekly layout with a highlight from that week in 2011 (my first time doing a 52 weeks album) and am going down the same path this year. There are no right or wrongs in this album. There is no need to scrap large events, in fact the focus is on the daily activities that might get overlooked otherwise in our general scrapping. If you visit my scrapping blog, there are several pages to give you an example of various events that I have scrapped during our year in 2011. Here today, I am going to share my first page for 2012.

It’s helpful to include which week it is on your layout. I track mine in a simple Excel spreadsheet but I have also seen diaries and calenders used as well. I simple use one column for the week number, the next for the starting date of that week (e.g. in 2012, weeks start on a Sunday), I use the next to list what we did that week and a final column to mark off whether I have the photos printed or the page done.

And of course, as its all about telling stories, a little snippet of journalling is always a good idea.

It’s wonderful to sit down and look back at the year that was. Remembering little tid bits you might have forgotten, reliving events of the past year. Definitely a great keepsake to create every year.

Are you creating a 52 weeks album in 2012? Have you created one previously?

  1. I love your excel spreadsheet idea! I’m so very tempted to go ahead and make an album this year! even doing 8.5×11, which makes it feel more do-able! cute layout, too!

  2. Don’t think I would have the stamina to keep thus up for 52 weeks but a great idea! Love the mowing layout - so cute!

    Great idea, Sara.

One year I created a month by month album where I printed photos at the end of each month, then scrapped a double page with the best of them. I included a little calendar for the month with notes about what we had done that month. Then I used the extra photos to create layouts at the end of the album after the monthly pages.

It was great motivation for me to have a smaller task each month rather than a huge stack of photos waiting at the end. It worked really well for me.

Unfortunately I didn’t scrap at all in 2011 so I have all those photos still to be printed and scrapped! Maybe I should try your 52 weeks for this year and stay ahead of myself again.
