WCMTM: Amy

First off, I want to say THANK YOU to each and every one of you that shared what crafting means to you over the past month. I have really enjoyed reading everyones stories, so thank you.

WCMTM

And now I guess it is my turn to share what crafting means to me.

I have memories from my childhood of my Grandmother teaching me to knit. We made a few squares and then she moved away and they were put in the cupboard and forgotten. We never had a sewing machine in the house, we did have an old sewing box though. Full of some thread and some pins and needles for the odd button replacement task. And I do remember Mum doing some cross stitch there for a bit. But she always said she wasn’t the crafty type. But all I can say is, what is a crafty type?

Fast forward to the birth of my eldest son who is now 7, and that is when I was given my first sewing machine. I tried my hand at making nappies (I hated it) but making him blankets and simple clothing was what I enjoyed.

I tried my hand at scrapbooking too. Didn’t much care for it at the time, but I am loving Project Life now! Knitting? Yep I did that too. I have made myself numerous scarfs and a few coffee cup holders, but no bigger projects- Maybe next winter.

Crochet? I tried to teach myself for years and have only just gotten the hang of it thanks to Tonya and her Crochet along!

But quilting and sewing seem to be the passion that sticks. I have now being sewing in some way on and off for 7 years. And pretty much ON for the past 3. It is my sanity, my me time and my confidence.

That may sound absurd that my confidence comes from what I create. But you can’t tell me that after you have completed anything you don’t get some form of satisfaction from it?! Yeah, that smug feeling that hey, I made that.

Crafting also means community to me. Especially this lovely little community we have here at ASWC and the ASWC girls that write here too. If you ask me, community is probably the best bit about my crafting.

So if you haven’t already answered this question: What does crafting mean to you?
