I have been doing a lot of making lately, just little things. Some I can’t share here just yet. But you know what? It feels good! When I actually get some decent time to create I feel cool, calm and collected.
I have my Mum staying with us at the moment, she is not a maker. I mean she doesn’t make anything, I don’t remember her baking our birthday cakes, that job was usually left to our Grandmother or my Aunty. She never made any clothes for us, I think she tried cross stitch once and I am not 100% sure that she finished it. She just isn’t into the whole making and creating thing. To tell you the truth I have no idea where I got my making urges from.
I enjoying baking, making bread, sewing, quilting and just making in general. Yesterday I was making some flying geese when she came up and looked over my shoulder. She asked if I made a mistake… I gave her a funny look and said no. She then questioned why I was cutting the fabric again… I was cutting away the triangles to finish of the block!
Or today I was testing a pattern for Sew Jereli, they are pants and I was using some red spotted flannel to make my daughter some PJ pants. She said you aren’t going to let her out of the house in them, are you? I assured her, that no I wasn’t they were to be Pajamas…
I could go on with the stories of her not appreciating handmade. She is one of the reasons I blog. I blog so I can share my love of handmade with like minded people like you. Who appreciate handmade, who understand the time it takes to make a handmade item. Who just get it!

And I completely understand what it’s like having people around you who just don’t ‘get it’. I LUURVE my crochet, there is rarely a day when I don’t work on some project or other and I do it because it’s relaxing and it centres me. Most people consider it an ‘old person’ hobby, a lot of my friends are always saying to me ‘oh I WISH I had time to sit around and do that all day’. I always think I should tell them if you really want to do something and you enjoy it, you just find yourself making time in your day for it. My parents in particular are always going on about how they never have time for anything and I waste my days with crochet… oh deary dear!

That is exactly right Tash! We make time for things we love doing. You are not wasting your days, to are doing something you enjoy and that is never a waste!

Until recently I would’ve said that whilst supportive, my husband didn’t quite understand the importance creating and quilting was to me. But then he made a comment that when the kids were at school and it was time to “do something”, that I could do whatever I wanted, quilting even!

That’s great Alyce! Brendan has become pretty supportive of what I am doing now. E starts kindy next year at last year Brendan was all about me going back to work outside of the home. But now he is content with me doing work in the home. He sees that I enjoy creating and how happy it makes me. So it’s a win/win for both of us.
It is exciting that quilting could become your job!
